The apricot, a member of the Rosaceae family, shares its nature with peaches, cherries and plums, being part of the Prunus Armeniaca species. This summer fruit, with its vibrant yellow-orange hue, has a velvety skin and light down. The soft, sweet flesh surrounds a woody stone that holds an almond-like seed. The world’s main producers include America, France, Italy, Spain and Greece. The apricot is a summer fruit rich in water, with a content of 86.3%, accompanied by simple sugars (6.8g/100g) and a low calorie intake of only 28 Kcal per 100 g. Its contribution of fibre and minerals such as potassium, calcium, phosphorus and iron is also appreciable. Particularly remarkable is the abundance of vitamin A (360µg/100g), which stimulates melanin production, providing skin protection during sun exposure. A fruit that is not only delicious but also nutritious, offering a full range of health and wellness benefits.
