COMPANY
The Story
A family tradition
The history of this company dates back to 1950, when it was founded by Gaetano Lodico, father of the current owners (Alfredo Luigi, Calogero and Salvatore).
It all began on about 2 hectares of land cultivated with fruit and cereals. In 1960, the decision was made to plant table grapes with tree and espalier training, giving the initial shape to what would become the current company, inherited by the sons in 2002.
Cultivation continued in the family tradition and, after a few years, the Società Agricola Lodico was founded. Driven by their passion for the agricultural world, the Lodico brothers began to expand the farm, increasing production and taking care of product marketing.
New developments for the Lodico Agricultural Company in Canicatti (AG), which carried out major modernization work on its facilities, radically transforming the company.
Agricolture 4.0
Evolution
The company has built a new 2500 square meters hall, constructed in such a way as to eliminate or almost eliminate CO2 emissions in the manufacturing processes. This is thanks to a 300 Kw/h photovoltaic system that meets the energy needs of the building and the machinery operating in it, including 1100 square meters of cold rooms and 4 processing lines for a total of 44 workstations.
We have adapted to the criteria of agriculture 4.0,’ said the company president, Salvatore Lodico, in a preview interview for FreshPlaza, ‘placing the rationalization of energy and water resources at the centre. Production is now governed by a centralized system for intelligent irrigation. This system also allows us to carry out treatments with extreme precision, based on actual need, enabling us to aim for zero residue for all our products: from stone fruits to grapes and, soon, also kiwis.
1100 sqm
of cold rooms
The company is equipped with 1100 square meters of cold storage rooms, as well as a blast chiller that can reach a temperature of 3°C in 3 hours. The cold rooms are all equipped with humidifiers to maintain an ideal climate during temporary storage.
Controlled-temperature processing lines
The processing lines are located in temperature-controlled rooms that need powerful ventilation systems (see ceiling tubes) for the comfort of the staff and the proper maintenance of the fruit being processed.
